Spotify announced the brand new feature – DJ in FEBRUARY, 2023, for Premium users in the US and Canada. Spotify DJ is created for moments when you want music but aren’t ready to make a decision, DJ is an AI-powered voice that guides you through a personalized mix of your current favorites and timeless throwbacks. They’ll even introduce you to new music to help keep your listening fresher than the rest! All you have to do is tap and listen.

1. How to use Spotify AI DJ?

Spotify AI DJ is a personalized AI guide that choose what to play for you. It will review what you might enjoy and deliver a stream of songs picked just for you. And what’s more, it constantly refreshes the lineup based on your feedback. How to use Spotify AI DJ?

On Spotify Mobile, tablet and desktop app

  1. Tap Home .
  2. Select the Music tag at the top of the screen.
  3. Tap DJ, and start listening.

To change the music, tap the DJ button in the Now Playing bar at the bottom of the app.

Your DJ playlist will be added to Your Library and to your Recently played playlists.

Is Spotify DJ on desktop?

Spotify DJ is now accessible on desktop app, but to experience the feature, you’ll probably need to update or reinstall the application. Alternatively, you have the option to cast Spotify DJ from your phone using Spotify Connect. To start, play the DJ feature on your mobile device while keeping your Spotify web or desktop app open on your computer. Then, tap on the small speakers icon located at the bottom left of the currently playing track on your mobile device. Next, choose the device through which you want to listen to your music. Select ‘Web Player’ to have the music played through your desktop.

Who is Spotify’s AI DJ voice and can you turn it off?

To create the voice model for the DJ, Spotify partnered with its own Head of Cultural Partnerships, Xavier “X” Jernigan. Previously, X served as one of the hosts on Spotify’s first (and personalized) morning show, The Get Up. His voice is the first model for the DJ.

Currently, there’s no way to remove or change the AI DJ voice officially, aside from skipping track or exiting out of the feature entirely to listen to another podcast or music track. You can vote for this idea here. However, when Spotify DJ is played through a desktop using Spotify Connect, the platform appears to only play music.

2. Spotify DJ Mode

Spotify DJ mode allows you to perform some of the best DJ transitions with your Spotify songs at a house party or other event without expensive DJ software and equipment.

It has a handy crossfade feature that allows you to blend between songs and emulate basic mixing techniques.

1. Crossfade

Crossfading is a classic DJ technique that allows you to play an upcoming track without any audio gaps. The songs will fade into each other, creating a danceable atmosphere.

On your phone or tablet

  • Click the Gear icon on the top right corner to open Settings.
  • Tap Playback.
  • Turn on Gapless Playback and set Crossfade time which sounds right to you.

2. Equalizer

There’s also the option to adjust the equalizer, taking the low, mid, and treble parameters and tweaking them to optimize results.

You can modify the sound of your playlist to fit the atmosphere and settings of your DJ room. Go to Settings > Playback and you will see the EQ option. Before the party starts, you can experiment with the equalizer settings. You can adjust the equalizer manually, or choose one of the settings.

3. Can I use Spotify with third-party DJ apps or DJ software?

Another option worth considering to DJ with Spotify is linking it to compatible DJ software and opening up additional tools when you play Spotify songs.

However, Spotify officially revoked the support for all 3rd party DJ apps and DJ software back in July 2020. The only DJ app that Spotify has agreed to allow to keep working is the Pacemaker Dj app. Pacemaker’s AI DJ allows you to choose your tracks from millions of songs included in Pacemaker, sync your Apple Music or Spotify library to create a mixed masterpiece. Furthermore, the app allows you to use the studio function with which you can crop the start and the end of the tracks as well as set the mix on desired phrases, beats, and bars.

Actually, it only matches your Apple Music/Spotify playlists with its catalog. If the songs are not available in Pacemaker, it will be unavailable.
