If you wish to access your iTunes Store purchases on a computer, you’ll first need to authorize it. You can authorize a Windows PC using iTunes or a Mac using either Apple Music or Apple TV. Before proceeding with authorization, make sure you’ve signed in to iTunes or Apple Music with the same Apple ID.

Keep in mind that you can only authorize up to 5 computers at a time to play your iTunes Store purchases. If you’ve already authorized five desktops and want to add a new Mac or Windows computer, you’ll need to deauthorize one of the existing ones. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to authorize and deauthorize your computer for iTunes using Apple Music or iTunes.

Please note that you can only authorize the computer you have direct access to. Authorization can’t be done remotely from another device like another computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Ready to connect your Mac? Here’s a guide on authorizing and reauthorizing it for Apple Music:

Authorize your Mac with Apple Music

  1. Open the Apple Music app on your Mac.
  2. From the menu bar, go to Account > Authorizations, then select Authorize This Computer.
  3. Enter your Apple ID and Password, and click the Authorize button.
  4. You’ll see a confirmation message once your Mac is authorized.

If you need to deauthorize a computer that you don’t have direct access to, you’ll need to deauthorize all your devices and then reauthorize the ones you still have. There’s a catch, though: you can only deauthorize all your computers once a year.

  1. Open the Apple Music on Mac or iTunes on Windows.
  2. Access Account Settings:
    • Mac: Go to Account > Account Settings.
    • Windows: Go to Account > View My Account.
  3. Enter your Apple ID and password
