PS4 is an all-in-one entertainment device. In addition to games, you can play and stream TV shows, movies and music. What's more, you can play music or podcasts while you play games, enabling you to soundtrack your gaming sessions with your favorite songs in the background.
Now you can use Spotify in the Quick Menu and switch through songs, adjust volume, and scroll through playlists. If you're using headphones, you can adjust your PS4 headphone volume from the Quick Menu as well, and control all your audio in one place.
If you find it annoying to head to your PS4's Quick Menu every time you want to change songs, or you find the PS4 Spotify interface limiting, then you can control Spotify via your phone or computer. Just use Spotify as you normally would, and make sure you've got your PS4 selected as the listening device.
However, if Spotify is not working on your PS4, here are some solutions.
If you receive this error, follow below steps.
This error is quite common and requires you to look different from your PSN and Spotify accounts and then link them to fix them.
If the Spotify PS4 app won’t open, delete it from your console and then reinstall it. If that fails, you will need to contact PlayStation Support.
If you are unable to sign in to your Spotify PS4 account, it could be because you are already signed in with other accounts. Sign out of Spotify and all user accounts on your PS4, then activate Spotify on a specific account on your console.
Other universal options:
Option 1 Reconnect Spotify and PS4
Option 2 Restore license
Literally just spam L1 or R1 to skip song in the quick menu and the song after a few seconds will skip to the next and continue playing without opening Spotify suspending whatever app you were on prior.
If Spotify said it wasn't installed but when you went to the store to reinstall it, it gave an error code saying it was already installed on your device:
1. If you have Spotify installed on an external HDD, turn off your PS4, unplug it, reboot and install spotify on your system. When you plug your external HDD back in, your PS4 will say that Spotify is installed on 2 different places and that you have to delete one. Delete it off of your external HDD and keep the one on your system's built in HDD. Spotify will boot and play music again without issue.
2. If you do not have a external HDD, turn off your PS4, hold the power button until the second beep(this boots your PS4 into safe mode), it should say that you have to plug in your controller and hit the ps button. After the controller setup there should be a menu with multiple options on it, select rebuild database and wait for it to finish. After reboot and rebuild Spotify should be fixed, if not, then refer to option three below.
3. This is a last ditch effort and will wipe all your data off your PS4. If option 2 did not work, boot into safe mode again(as stated in step 2) and on the menu select initialize PS4, this will delete EVERYTHING on your PS4 so make sure you back up everything you want to keep on a separate device such as a USB drive etc.. After your PS4 is done initializing, just reinstall all your software and your issue with spotify will be fixed.
